Advancement Reports

Parents of Scouts - Beginning this month, and continuing each future month, we will be providing a copy of the Troop 48 Advancement Status report in a Troop 48 Update (attached). This report is designed to show what rank your son/grandson is working on as well as the requirements he needs for that next rank. The hope is that you can use this to discuss his progress against the goal he set for that next rank. (The goal is usually written on the requirements page for that rank.) If you find that his handbook lists more items completed than listed on the report, please ask him to present his book to our advancement chair, Mrs. Vietzke, who will update our Troopmaster software (the report is as of 11/5, so recent changes will not be shown until next month). If this monthly review generates any questions about his advancement progress, please guide him to speaking with Scoutmaster Issing.

On a related note, upon departing your house for a troop activity, please see that your son leaves with his handbook. Each week and each camping trip provides multiple opportunities for getting requirements 'signed-off'. The typical scenario is that a Scout completes an item yet does not have his book on him for the requirement to be noted as completed. And then he forgets about following up at the next troop meeting and his accomplishment is lost to time. This is the number one item of angst among the members of the Scoutmaster Corps as they know that Scouts are completing requirements but not getting recognized for them.

Religious Emblem Program Offered

Faith Presbyterian will be offering classes beginning in January to enable Scouts to earn the Religious Emblem, taught by the youth leader, Jon Fuschi. This is not only limited to Presbyterians, each religion has its own booklet and the Scout will work with their own religious leaders during the framework of the class offered at FPC. The Scout Law teaches us that a Scout is reverent to God, and this is an important opportunity for our Scouts to grow stronger in their faith.  More information will be provided at the December Court of Honor on December 12th. The Religious Emblem award is one of the few that a Scout can continue to wear on their adult uniform.
