Permission Slips Needed for April Campout

For the April campout (3/31-4/2) at Camp Currier, any Scouts participating in climbing or shooting activities will need the attached two permission slips signed by a parent. Please bring the signed slips to the troop meeting on Tuesday 3/28, or to the campout on 3/31.

Annual Health and Medical Record – due April 18

The Annual Health and Medical Record form can be found online at https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/ahmr/. Parts A, B, and C should be completed annually for all Scouts, dads, and leaders attending campouts and are due to Mr. Chuck Utterback by April 18. Part C requires a doctor’s signature, so make your appointments now.

Swim Check on April 25

Our swim check will be on Tuesday, April 25 at 7:00 PM at the Germantown Athletic Club. Start practicing swimming now to prepare if it has been a while since you have been in the pool. There will be no regular troop meeting on April 25. All Scouts and Dads need to pass the BSA Swim Check annually and qualify as a “BSA Swimmer” to participate in water activities with the Troop, such as canoeing, swimming or water sports. Scouts who have not earned Second Class can complete requirements 5b and 5c. The requirements are listed below (you must use one of the strokes listed properly and have a strong stroke to pass as a Swimmer):

SWIMMER:

Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.

BEGINNER (Second Class requirement 5b):

Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, swim 25 feet on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming as before, and return to starting place.

Second Class requirement 5c:

Demonstrate water rescue methods by reaching with your arm or leg, by reaching with a suitable object, and by throwing lines and objects.
