Troop 48 Update for January 13, 2014

January Campout

-          Backpacking trip on Sylamore Trail from Blanchard Springs to Allison, Arkansas is January 24 - 26; $20.00 is due no later than January 14th (tomorrow) so patrols can purchase food to be distributed on January 21st. For planning purposes, there will be no late additions for this trip. There is a backpacking gear check on January 21st  for those attending the trip that are under 1st class.

 

Mother’s Neckband Ribbon Order

-          Please let Kim Ridenhour know if you would like to order a Mother’s Neckband Ribbon for rank advancement pins. The cost is $7.50 and money and orders will be due by January 14th (tomorrow) . There are two choices – one for only Boy Scouts and one for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. If you are missing any past rank pins from Boy Scouts or Cub Scouts, let Kim know which ones you need replaced.

 

Advancement Opportunities – Jan 28th & Feb 1st

-          Three advancement requirements can be partially completed on the night of January 28th. A former Troop 48 Scout, and now Bartlett Police officer, will come to discuss the below requirements. Number 9a requires a discussion at home. Once that takes place the parent can date and initial the Handbook in the left-hand margin next to the requirement. 

2nd Class:

9a. - Participate in a school, community, or troop program on the dangers of using drugs, alcohol, and tobacco and other practices that could be harmful to your health. Discuss your participation in the program with your family, and explain the dangers of substance addictions.

9b. - Explain the three R's of personal safety and protection.

1st Class:

11. - Describe the three things you should avoid doing related to use of the Internet. Describe a cyberbully and how you should respond to one.

-          On February 1st, there will be an advancement opportunity after Camporee practice from 1pm – 4pm, involving compass work and completion of the Totin’ chip. More details to come.

Skymont Summer Camp – June 7th-14th

-          The cost for Skymont Summer Camp will be $180 per Scout and $90 for leaders (plus fees for Merit Badge classes). The first deposit is due 2/4 and Scout Bucks may be used. The payment schedule is:

o   2/4/14  Initial Deposit: $75 for Scouts, $30 for Leaders

o   3/4/14  Second Deposit $75 for Scouts, $30 for Leaders

o   4/29/14 Final Deposit $30 Plus Extra-Charge Merit Badge Fees

-          Please note that the Troop Committee uses the Campership fund to subsidize the Scout cost. The cost the Troop pays for Skymont is $210, so there is a $30 subsidy per Scout. Also the Troop provides the transportation costs and additional food costs, plus the cost of camping on the additional Saturday night.

 

Spaghetti Supper – Feb 7th

-          Each Scout received 8 tickets at the last Troop meeting, so please sell as many tickets as you can (see Eric Hube for additional tickets). Also, a flyer was provided to each Scout – please post this to help with advertising - some ideas are at your church, your office, or a local business.
