Troop 48 Update - 3/31/17

Posted on Sun, Apr 2, 2017

Camporee Practice this Saturday, April 1 (no April Fool!)

There will be Camporee practice this Saturday, April 1, 9:00 am – Noon. Dress for the weather (no uniforms) and bring a water bottle. Please let your patrol leader know if you cannot attend.

Summer Adventure – Deposit due Tuesday, April 4

Our Summer Adventure in July will be backpacking on the Appalachian Trail and whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River. We have changed the dates of this trip to July 8 – 14, since several had conflicts with the original dates. The first $30 deposit for this trip is due on this Tuesday, April 4.

Troop T-shirts/Uniforms/Equipment Swap – Tuesday, April 4

This Tuesday before the Troop meeting at 6:40 pm, we will have all of our Troop’s supply of used t-shirts, uniform parts, boots and camping equipment out for viewing and we would like to everyone to take a look to see if you can use any of it. Also, if you have used items you have outgrown or no longer need, feel free to bring them Tuesday night. Parents, please come at the beginning of the Troop meeting to look through the items. We will put it all away around 7:30 pm.

Is Your Uniform Complete? Be Prepared for Camporee

We will also have new Troop t-shirts for sale for $13 Tuesday night. Everyone will need a Troop t-shirt and a complete uniform (cap, neckerchief, socks, belt, etc.) for Camporee, so check now and see if you need to purchase any replacement caps or neckerchiefs for Camporee on Tuesday night.

Welcome to our Newest Scout

We would like to welcome Victor Gamblin and his family to the Troop!  Victor’s parents are Victor Sr. and Yvonne Gamblin.

Swim Check – April 11 – Be Prepared

Each Scout and Adult participating in any water activities (swimming, canoeing, skiing, sailing, etc.) need to pass the swim check each year to qualify as a “BSA Swimmer”. Our Troop’s annual swim check will be April 11 at the Germantown Athletic Center (GAC). Please make plans to practice swimming or have some swim lessons prior to the swim check. Those who are members of GAC should bring their membership card. All other guests need to complete the attached waiver form and bring it that night. The Troop will pay the guest fees.

The requirements are:

· Jump feet first into water over the head, level off, and begin swimming.

· Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: side, breast, trudgen, or crawl. Swim 25 yards using an easy, resting backstroke.

· The 100 yards must be completed without stops and must include at least one sharp turn.

· Rest by floating…Long enough to demonstrate ability to rest when exhausted.

BSA Health Form C due April 25

http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/HealthandSafety/ahmr.aspx Health Form C requires a doctor’s signature and is due by April 25, so make your appointments to visit your doctor soon. Form C is required for trips over 72 hours for Scouts and Adults, (Skymont and the Summer Adventure), but we recommend that all Scouts get Form C completed and turned in to Mr. Richard Ralph by April 25.

Updated Troop Roster

An updated Troop Roster file is attached with contact information for everyone in the Troop. Please save this file and print it out, so you have it in case the Troop is called to assist with a community emergency when the power is out.

PayPal / Credit/Debit Card Payment Option

We have added a “Donate” button to our Troop website to accept credit/debit card payments through PayPal or PayPal account payments. These payments will deposit directly into your Scout Bucks account. Please include the Scout’s name and “Scout Bucks” in the comments when making a payment. Note that simply making a payment in this way is not considered a sign-up for a campout or trip; the Scout still has the responsibility to sign up with the Scribe by the deadline. Also note that due to the Troop’s non-profit status, any money deposited into a Scout Bucks account is considered Troop funds and is not refundable; it may only be used to pay for Troop activities or uniforms and is forfeited if you leave the Troop.
