Troop 48 Update - 4/21/17

Church Service Project Tomorrow – Saturday, April 22

We will be cleaning out flower beds and spreading mulch at the church on Saturday April 22 beginning at 9 am. We will finish by noon, but be prepared to pick up earlier if we finish early. Wear work clothes and gloves and bring a water bottle. If you can, bring a shovel or bucket to spread mulch.  All Scouts need service project hours to advance to the next rank, so this is an excellent opportunity to meet those requirements.

BSA Health Form C Due next Tuesday, April 25

http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/HealthandSafety/ahmr.aspx Health Form C requires a doctor’s signature and is due by April 25, so make your appointments to visit your doctor soon. Form C is required for trips over 72 hours for Scouts and Adults, (Skymont and the Summer Adventure), but we recommend that all Scouts get Form C completed and turned in to Mr. Richard Ralph by April 25.

May Campout sign-up deadline extended to next Tuesday, April 25

Sign-ups for our May 5-7 trip to Jackson Falls, IL have been less than expected.  We are assuming the cost or the focus on rock climbing could be the issue.

· As a reminder, anyone attending who does not want to climb need only pay $25 for the trip. Climbing is not required.

· We will be extending our normal sign up period to next Tuesday April 25th. If you sign up by the end of the meeting next Tuesday, you will not need to follow the late sign-up procedures.

· If you do wish to climb, it isn’t too late to sign up. The cost for climbing is $80.

· We also need more drivers than have signed up so far, especially drivers who can carry gear.

If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Hormberg at 901-277-6878.

Skymont Fees due May 2

The remaining Skymont deposits and merit badge/activity fees are due on May 2. The last deposit is $50 for Scouts and $25 for Adults. Attached is a list of the merit badge fees that are due. If anyone would like to sign up for the Ocoee River Whitewater rafting trip on Friday of the camp, please also pay the $80 fee on May 2 and let Mr. Matt Jordan know. (Rafting for age 12 & older only and BSA Swimmer).  There is also a waiver that must be signed for the Whitewater rafting trip that Mr. Jordan will provide to those who sign up.

Troop T-shirt Order

Attached is an order form for Troop t-shirts. All orders and money are due by May 2 at the Court of Honor to Mrs. Peggy Lux. Scouts attending Skymont will be wearing Troop t-shirts each day, so they need enough to get them through the week. You may also turn in orders at the Troop meetings prior to May 2 to Mrs. Kim Ridenhour. Long sleeve shirts are also available to order and won’t be ordered again until next year, so get your order in now if you would like a long sleeve shirt for the fall and winter.

Textile Merit Badge Offering on July 29 – sign up by May 7

Scoutmaster Issing has arranged for a Textile merit badge course as part of his service 'ticket' for his Wood Badge training certification. Here’s a chance to earn a merit badge that only 2,480 Scouts earned last year. The Textile merit badge will be offered on Saturday, July 29th by Mr. William Bettendorf, an employee of the National Cotton Council of America. Be one of the very few to earn this merit badge in 2017! Besides some classroom work, this all-day course will include a visit to The Cotton Museum to see the history of the cotton trade, the old cotton trading floor, and a lot of Memphis history. If you are interested in participating, please send an e-mail to Mr. Brian Issing and you will be placed on the class roster. (Brian_Issing@hotmail.com) He will reply to your request.
