Troop 48 Update - 7/21/17

Posted on Thu, Jul 27, 2017

Welcome Back!

Weekly Tuesday night Troop meetings have resumed at the church at 7 PM. Wear Class B uniforms until Labor Day (Troop t-shirt with Scout shorts/socks/cap).

Swim Fun Night and Swim Checks – August 1

On Tuesday, August 1, we will meet at the Germantown Athletic Club (GAC) pool for a fun swim night at 7 PM. There will not be a regular Troop meeting at the church that night. Anyone who is not a member of GAC will need to complete and bring the attached waiver form, and the Troop will pay the $5 fee per person. Members of GAC should bring their membership card.

Besides the fun of hanging out in a pool, Mr. Hormberg will oversee the BSA swim check for anyone needing it to go on the August 18-20 canoe trip. All Scouts and Adults attending the canoe trip must have passed the BSA swim check in the past year. In addition, Mr. Snyder will be instructing and testing Scouts on the Scout Rescues needed for advancement:

2nd Class

#5c - Demonstrate water rescue methods by reaching with your arm or leg, by reaching with a suitable object, and by throwing lines and objects.

#5d - Explain why swimming rescues should not be attempted when a reaching or throwing rescue is possible. Explain why and how a rescue swimmer should avoid contact with the victim.

1st Class

#6e - With a helper and a practice victim, show a line rescue both as tender and as rescuer. (The practice victim should be approximately 30 feet from shore in deep water.)

This will be the last time this year that these will be offered. Please check your Scout's handbook and, if any of these are not signed, tell him to see Mr. Snyder that night.

Congratulations to our Newest Eagle Scouts

Congratulations to Brent Eddleman and Jon Lux who recently earned the rank of Eagle!  We will be honoring them at their Eagle Court of Honor on Friday, August 11 at 7 PM.

Troop Committee

Parents, if you haven’t been involved with the Troop Committee, now is a great time to start!  Our next Committee meeting is August 7 at 7 PM and all parents are welcome. We are looking to fill some open positions on the Committee, so please let Kim Ridenhour know if you are interested. We need a Greenery Fundraiser Coordinator, Outfitting Coordinator, and Secretary.
