Troop 48 Update - 7/21/18

Posted on Sun, Jul 22, 2018

August Campout – Caving, Saturday/Sunday, August 25-26

Troop 48's next trip will be camping at Fall Creek Falls with a side trip to Cumberland Caverns. At Cumberland Caverns, there are two spelunking trips to choose from:

Higgenbotham's Revenge

Difficulty Level: Moderate to Challenging

Time: 3.5 – 4 Hours

What To Expect: Follow the historic route of the discoverer, Aaron Higgenbotham. The tour begins with a 1½ mile hike to the Higgenbotham Entrance. You will encounter narrow passageways, ladders (some up to 20 feet high) and muddy trails. The higher adventurers of our troop took this trek a few years back and it was widely acclaimed as a great trip.

Alternately, there is the Daily Walking Tour - This 1½ mile walking tour features incredible formations, a historic 1812 saltpeter mine, a beautiful waterfall and gleaming pools.

Difficulty Level: Moderate

Time: 1.5 Hours

If you don’t want to take either caving trip, but you still want to go camping, please speak with Mr. Issing or Mr. Hormberg about an alternative plan.

Trip Cost – due Tuesday, August 14

  • Higgenbotham’s Revenge and Camping:  $45
  • Daily Walking Tour and Camping: $45 for ages 13 and older; $38.50 for 11-12 yr-olds
  • Camping only: $25
