Spaghetti Supper Ticket Sales – Saturday, January 26, 3:00-4:30 PM

Mrs. Kelley Lee would like to lead a group of Scouts to sell Spaghetti Supper tickets in the neighborhood around the church this Saturday, January 26 from 3:00-4:30 pm. She also needs another BSA registered adult to volunteer to help as well, please let her know if you can assist. Meet at the church at 3:00 and wear your Class A uniform. If it is raining, this will be canceled. Remember, Scouts earn one free ticket for every 8 tickets sold!

Name Change – Boy Scouts to Scouts BSA

Beginning in February, Boy Scouts will change its name to Scouts BSA, when girls will be able to join Scouts BSA. Some things to note:

  • Scouts BSA will have boy troops and girl troops, who will all be members of the Boy Scouts of America and Scouts BSA. Don’t use the term “girl scout” since that refers to the separate organization Girl Scouts of the USA. (Troop 48 will be a Scouts BSA boy troop.)
  • There will be a new Scouts BSA Handbook published in two versions, one for boys and one for girls. They will be identical except for the photos in the books will feature either boys or girls. The requirements are identical. The requirements and program elements in the new book are the same as the current 13th edition of the Boy Scout Handbook, so current Scouts do not need to purchase the new version if they already have the 13th edition of the Boy Scout Handbook.
  • There will be new Scouts BSA uniforms, with the tan shirt saying “BSA” instead of “Boy Scouts of America”. Official BSA uniforms from the past always remain official, so there is no need to purchase the new uniform just for the name change. Older uniform parts can be worn with newer parts.

Skymont Summer Camp – June 8-15

The first Skymont deposit is due February 5 and is $75 for Scouts and $30 for Adults. The total cost for Skymont this year will be $180 for Scouts and $85 for Adults. These costs are being subsidized by the Troop by $115 per Scout and $65 per Adult, so we encourage everyone to consider attending summer camp to take advantage of this great deal and make some progress on earning merit badges. Please note that any adults attending Skymont need to be registered with the BSA. More information will be provided at the February 5 Court of Honor, and you can check out their website at this link: Skymont

Spaghetti Supper – February 22

Tickets for our 64th annual Spaghetti Supper on February 22 were handed out, so please keep selling those. Tickets are $10 each. For every 8 tickets you sell, you earn 1 free ticket. We need all Scouts and parents to help with this event, so please plan to be there on February 22. If you have any questions or need additional tickets, please contact Mrs. Kelley Lee.

Scout Sunday – February 10

Please make plans for Scouts and their families to attend the church service at Faith Presbyterian on Sunday, February 10 to celebrate Scout Sunday. We will also take the Troop photo that morning at 10 am. Scouts should wear Class A uniforms.

2019 Lodge Order of the Arrow Conference (LOAC)

LOAC 2019 will be held at Camp Currier the weekend of February 8-10.  This year we will have climbing, shooting, fishing, sports, games, a chapter ceremonies competition, and several training sessions.  LOAC is a good opportunity for eligible OA brothers to seal their membership by becoming Brotherhood members. Participants will receive the first flap in our three flap set for 2019 program events. Additional information will be provided during upcoming Troop meetings.

Philmont Trip Dates for 2020

The first deposit for the trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico will be due soon, so please let Assistant Scoutmaster Bo Hormberg know if you may be interested in this high adventure trip of a lifetime. The 12-day expedition will arrive at Philmont on 6/21/2020 and will depart Philmont on 7/3/2020. Scouts need to be 14 years old OR 13 years old and completed 8th grade by 6/21/2020.
