Memorial Day Service Project – this Saturday, May 25
We will be assisting with flag placement at the West Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Memphis, beginning at 8 am on Saturday, May 25. We will meet at the Cemetery at 8 am (best to be there by 7:45 am). After the opening ceremony, we will go by the grave of a Troop 48 Alumni to pay our respects. Be prepared for hard ground - bring a screwdriver & hammer/mallet to make a pilot hole for the flag. Wear your Class A uniform.
Summer Schedule and Uniforms
There will be no regular troop meetings on June 11, 18, 25 and July 2, 9 for the summer break. On July 2, only those attending the Summer Adventure will meet. We will have troop meetings on May 28 and June 4, and then weekly troop meetings will resume on July 16 after the break.
Also, beginning next Tuesday, the Troop will wear Class B activity uniforms for the summer at Troop meetings until Labor Day (Troop t-shirt instead of Uniform shirt, no neckerchief, but still have BSA socks, belt, shorts/pants and cap). Class A field uniforms are required when traveling on all trips, even in the summer.
Summer is a good time to make progress on merit badges! The procedures for starting a merit badge are outlined on our Troop 48 website – www.troop48.org under Policy and Procedures. See Scoutmaster Brian Issing or Assistant Scoutmaster Brent Snyder to get a blue card and a merit badge counselor assigned.
Parents Ribbon for Rank Advancement Pins
The Scout shop has the neckband ribbons pictured below for sale for $5.99 each to use for the rank advancement pins that are received by a parent at the Court of Honor. If you would like to purchase one, please let Kim Ridenhour know by Tuesday, May 28th and provide your payment to her, or you can purchase one from the Scout shop directly. The green/blue ribbon is for those who participated in Cub Scouts and the green only ribbon is for those who did not participate in Cub Scouts – let Kim know which one you want.
Barbecue Fundraiser – July 4th
Attached is an order form for our Troop’s July 4th BBQ fundraiser. Please sell as much as possible, and please complete a separate order form for each order. The orders are due by June 18 to Stephanie Hardin, but please turn in orders as you get them so we can plan appropriately. Our last Troop meeting prior to the summer break is June 4, so you can also email orders to Stephanie at SCMH9904@gmail.com. No Scout Bucks are awarded for this fundraiser, but it is an important one that helps fund our campouts, Summer Adventure, Skymont summer camp and camping equipment.
Troop 48 90th Anniversary Celebration – August 17
Our troop is having its 90th anniversary this year, and we will celebrate with friends and alumni on August 17th. See the attached letter for details and the ticket order form. A BBQ dinner will be served led by our own Richard Ralph and his Serial Grillers BBQ team. Tickets are $10 per person if purchased prior to August 8th, $15 per person after August 8. We would like everyone from the Troop to plan to attend this event, so please mark this on your calendars and purchase your tickets from Kim Ridenhour.
